To go to the island of Capri you can take the boat/ferry in the port of Positano. We recommend leaving early to take advantage of the whole day. Another option is to stay the night.
The first contact you will have with Capri is with the Marina Grande area, since it is where the tourist and commercial port of the island is located.
If you go for the day, you can buy takeaway food and take it with you to eat it in a spot that you find with a nice view. Just to soak all the landscape in. We recommend the iconic Piazza Umberto, also known as "la Piazzetta", it has one of the most beautiful views of the island.
On the opposite side of the Piazzetta you'll find the other part that concentrates some of the most luxurious cafes on the island, as well as the Church of Santo Stefano.
Within the historical monuments of the island, we must highlight the Clock Tower. As well as Villa Jovis. One of the most interesting monuments since it was the palace of the ancient Roman government between the years 26 and 37 AD, as well as the home of the Roman emperor Tiberius Julius Caesar Augustus. This was the main of his 12 villas.
To get there you have to hike for about 45 minutes uphill. They charge an entrance fee but children under 18 years of age residing in the European Union can enter for free. We recommend checking the days and opening hours online beforehand.
You have the option to explore Capri freely or join the boat tour that takes you around the island and enters the Grotta Azzurra. This depends on the tide, if it is high the boats cannot enter.
Another must stop is to visit the Giardini di Augusto gardens.
They are made up of a series of different terraces covered with plants and flowers that have one of the best views of Capri and its famous faraglioni (the large rocks that protrude into the sea and can be admired from the coast).
To access these gardens it is necessary to purchase a ticket that costs 1 euro per person and can only be purchased online.
Inside the gardens you will find another unique site: Via Krupp, one of the most impressive streets in the world.
The path covers a drop of about 100 meters and connects the Gardens with Marina Piccola and the area of the San Giacomo Charterhouse. Its construction is due to the German Friedrich Alfred Krupp, who found it uncomfortable to reach his rooms after a long day of relaxation in the bay.
Today it is closed to the public due to the danger of a landslide, but you can see it from these gardens.
Once again, the best thing to do is get lost in the little streets. The most important one is Via Vittorio Emanuele, where the luxury world-renowned brands' shops are located. Other very pretty streets: Via Croce and Camerelle.
On the opposite side of the island of Capri you will find Marina Piccola. Most of the luxury hotels, large villas and the most exclusive places on the island (such as the luxurious houses of Sofia Loren, Giorgio Armani or Swarovski) are concentrated in this area.
Do not forget to go up to Anacapri. It is a very nice walk in which you see the island from the heights until you reach the top.
Anacapri is the upper town of Capri. Great view, very elegant and where you can breathe a lot of peace.
Capri is full of surprises and natural monuments, one of them is the Arco Naturale. An arch-shaped rock formation of Paleolithic age that is almost 20 meters high.
Another option for a good view from the heights: go to Monte Solaro by chairlift (589 meters).
