CHALTÉN CAMP - glamping in the Chaltén

WHAT'S GLAMPING?

Glamping= glam + camping. This means that you camp in domes instead of tents, with all the comforts.

A Dome is a geodesic structure, built in iron, covered with a canvas and insulated with a special material.

WHAT'S CHALTEN CAMP?

It is a glamping located in El Chalten, Santa Cruz Province, Argentina.

It has 8 room domes (and expanding) and 1 general dome, which is connected to a kitchen dome. All the structures were located respecting a minimum distance of 20 meters between them, according to the geography and vegetation of the land. In this way you can enjoy the views of Fitz Roy mountain as if each Dome were the only one in the forest.

In addition, it is only 3km from the town of Chaltén, in a virgin area where Don Andreas Madsen (pioneer of this region) built his house in the early 1900s.

The interior design was in charge of ESTUDIO G and the work that Patricia Ganly did was exceptional. She immediately interpreted the DNA of the project and it shows in every detail.

Therefore, who better than her to tell us exactly how she brought to life the decoration and setting of each space of this unique project:

DINNING DOMO (DOMO COMEDOR)

"The dining room is a common place for all guests, where they serve breakfast, lunch, dinner or they can spend the afternoon in the company of other tourists.

When you enter the dome, they invite you to take off your boots and leave "alpargatas" (Argentinian shoe) or lamb slippers at your disposal. Also close at hand, in a large basket, you can find some "llama blankets" to warm up after a long day outdoors.

For breakfast and lunch, we put 3 old country kitchen tables for 10 people each, where all the guests share the meals. We use bowls, trays and jugs in green and grape colors from Los Naranjos, which give a very special touch of colour.

We made a central living room with large rattan pendants, where several sectors can be assembled for different groups. We use the same resource of the host dome with several cushions of "aguayos" with a lot of color and linens in neutral colors. We included several cowhide rugs under the dining tables, sheep wool for the lanterns, and sisal in the center of the living room, which help to visually separate the rooms and add a lot of warmth.

On one of the living room wooden walls, Luciano Bacchi's photography with images that encourage you to continue exploring each place in El Chaltén and its Patagonian mountains. Luciano is a photographer who specializes in photography of that place.

On a very small desk we added an old typewriter that Nicolás brought, so that guests can leave their notes and their experiences during their stay.

The atmosphere helps generate interaction between guests and exchange the experiences of the day."

ROOM DOMO (DOMO HABITACIÓN)

"Each unit is 26 m2, houses a bedroom and a private bathroom. Equipped with a wood stove, 12 volt electricity, USB cell phone charger, queen size bed, blankets and cozy decoration. All domes have panoramic "windows" facing the Fitz Roy.

Creating that warmth and comfort in the middle of nature 3 km from the town of 'El Chaltén', was one of my main goals.

I imagined a tourist entering the dome, after a long excursion and finding the salamander on, some lamb slippers and a llama blanket, and sitting down to rest with that incredible view of the Fitz Roy.

I chose strategic materials and textures to achieve that goal. The furniture is made of various different woods that are enhanced and coexist very well. The nightstands and bed were made in "petiribí" wood, on the sides of the bed there are sheep wool rugs, which play a very important role when getting out of bed and some wooden stools for suitcases made from old wire fences.

I wanted the bed to be comfortable and attractive. We paid special attention to the cushions, some made of "aguayos", the only intense colors of the dome, others in linen and others in tussor. To finish giving that special climate, on the wooden back, we hung some pictures of the flora and fauna of the place, in watercolor, made by a plastic artist from 'El Chaltén', which bring color and complete the palette. As a footboard, we leave 2 llama blankets that invite you to use it when you return from a very cold excursion and during the night on your feet.

Next to the salamander, I created a corner, to read or relax, I put it together with a BKF armchair with a sheep lamb on the seat, a coffee table made from a slice of a fallen tree and some lanterns on a cowhide rug."
